Dr. Shami is a board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and Craniofacial Surgeon. He is dual board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. After completion of his rigorous training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, he completed two very competitive fellowships, one in Craniomaxillofacial Surgery under the world-renowed Craniofacial Surgeon, Dr. Bruce Horswell at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, WV. And another one in Orthognathic and Facial Aesthetic Surgery under another world-renowed Plastic Surgeon Dr. Jeffery Posnick at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC and Posnick Center for Facial Plastic Surgery in Chevy Chase, MD. They are only a few Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, who are accepted in these fellowships from all over the United States. There are even fewer Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in the US with Dr. Shami's training.
Dr. Shami completed his dental education at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He then went to the prestigious Cleveland Clinic to complete a fellowship in Oral Oncology. He then completed a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Shami is on staff at several hospitals. He is on Facial Trauma Team at Inova Fairfax Hospital, a level 1 trauma hospital, where he treats patients with complex facial trauma and reconstructive surgery. He also practices out of the hospital, where his special interests lie in the field of dental extractions, impacted wisdom teeth, surgical management of impacted teeth for orthodontic purposes, and dental implants.
